1:200 Scale

1:200 Scale Architectural Models 5mm represents 1 metre

1:200 scale is typically used for models of schemes comprising several large buildings or residential developments comprising dozens of houses.

The scale is large enough to show a good level of recognisable detail but small enough to prevent the overall size of the model becoming impractical in terms of the amount of space required in a sales office. If the site is particularly big 1:250 scale is also a good option.

Refurbished Mansion House Development

When we delivered this model to the on-site marketing suite the client was really pleased to see how much of the architectural character of the original buildings we'd been able to represent. The model initially showed the gatehouse, the stables and the main house in full detail along with indicative massing blocks for three proposed new-build apartment buildings. Seven months down the line and with the model helping generate strong sales, the client asked us to update the model with fully detailed versions of the apartment blocks.

Retirement Village

The developer for this complex group of buildings needed a realistically detailed 3D model to illustrate how the individual buildings formed a linked community of retirement housing. Our solution was this full colour 1:200 scale model which showed plenty of recognisable detail but was compact enough to fit into their sales office. When we delivered the finished model the client emailed straight away with the comments "...can I just say the model of the village looks stunning".

Large Housing Development Model

This very large sales model was built in 3 sections that fitted together like a jigsaw puzzle with the joins hidden along natural landscape features such as hedges and streams. It was built in 3 sections because otherwise it would have been too large to get through the standard single door of the marketing suite. For the same reason the plinth it is displayed on was built as a flat-pack system that could be easily assembled on site.

Housing Development Model on Steep Site

This residential sales model was particularly challenging because of the steep topography of the site which meant that virtually every plot was on a different level. As a sales tool it was important that we accurately modelled every step, retaining-wall and embankment across the site so that purchasers could easily understand the levels and contours around whichever house they were looking to buy.

South East England Housing

When this client commissioned us to produce a high quality sales model for their upmarket development in Sussex it was very much a test exercise for them because they'd never used models in their marketing suites before. It worked so well they came back to us within a few months for a second model for another site and a few months after that they ordered a third model. They've now become a regular client since 2016 ordering several models a year.

London Apartments Interactive Model

One of our existing clients recommended our services to Notting Hill Sales which lead to us producing this fully interactive sales model for one of their major developments in London. The interactive element allows touch-screen controlled illumination of individual apartments with floor plans visible on screen and various filter options such as number of beds, aspect, availability, etc. Due to limited space in the marketing suite, we had to use a smaller than usual scale for this type of model which made it much more tricky to build.

Housing Development

Another typical marketing model for a new housing development - we have produced scores of these models over the years. This particular example was for one of the UK’s largest house builders who keep coming back to us because of the high quality of our work and the reliability of our service. 1:200 scale is an ideal option for these type of housing development models.

Dockside Apartments, South Coast

Six elevated apartment blocks with a raised central walkway and visible parking decks underneath made this a very technically demanding model. Added to which, three independent lighting systems illuminated different aspects of the model, including an individual control for each building.

Waterside Apartments

Occupying a prime site in a docklands redevelopment area, the model was given added drama by including the nearby elegantly designed pedestrian suspension bridge.

Waterside Apartments, South Wales

A very large model of a very large site. It started as a site model with one detailed area and later phases shown as massing blocks only. These were then detailed up as each new phase became active. All the buildings are fully illuminated.

Hillside Housing

This was a technically demanding project because it comprised over 150 units on a steeply sloping site. Many of the houses were split level properties and each plot required accurate modelling of retaining walls, complex access steps, and carefully designed embankments in the gardens. This model was actually at 1:250 scale but if you click on the image to enlarge it you’ll see we’ve still been able to achieve a high level of detail.

Holiday Resort Site

This 2.3 metre long model was commissioned to showcase the new development proposals at a Butlins holiday resort. The model shows the first phase of the development in full colour whilst the phase 2 proposals for a new hotel are shown at a simplified, monochromatic level (top right corner of pic). An important requirement for the model was that it should illustrate the attractive landscaped setting – the client was very pleased with the final result.

Private House Redevelopment

With complex landforming and a detailed landscaping layout, this 1:200 scale model was used to illustrate the overall redevelopment proposals for the site of this private house.

White Apartment Tower

Two identical models of this dramatic building were produced at short notice, one for a nearby marketing suite and one for an exhibition in Saudi Arabia.

Plasma Power Station

The brief for this project was to create a stylized representation of this power station that could be packed into a travel case and taken as hand luggage on international flights. The only way this was possible was to make the model in two halves that stacked back to back inside the foam-lined case. The chimney stacks were too tall to fit so we designed them to be unscrewed and packed flat during transit.

Biogas Waste Treatment Plant

Our second major project for GlaxoSmithKline, this model demonstrates how the company harnesses biogases from their waste treatment process to fuel a newly installed Combined Heat & Power facility. The colour coding of the pipes indicates the different stages of the treatment process. We subsequently updated this project to include a touch-screen information panel linked to interactive illumination on the model (see Interactive Models above).

Wales Millennium Centre (Night)

An illuminated model of the new performing arts centre in Cardiff Bay. The model was made mostly from wood to echo the natural materials chosen for the finish of the building.

White Cut-away Model

An all white, part model built to illustrate the internal and external spatial arrangement for an extended cafe facility on a former industrial building.

Canal-Side Apartments

One of the important requirements for this model was to illustrate the extensively landscaped roof gardens which you can just make out in the photo. The client also wanted to show the multi-tiered stacking car park spaces at the rear of the buildings as the extra parking was a big selling feature. This model also incorporated LED lighting which you can see if you click on the "Illuminated" section above.
